Lightning Strikes Thrice: A Thanksgiving Pairing Guide

November 23, 2010 By Ryan Lamb

Lightning Brewery

Skip the wine this Thanksgiving and pick up some bottles from Lightning Brewery. Their malty selection (the license plate of their delivery van: BIGMALT) is perfect for America’s favorite hearty-meal holiday.

First, the 7.7%ABV American Amber Ale would work well for the main course mainstays. It’s versatile, too, self-described as being “great at a backyard barbecue” and “when served in a wine glass it can be enjoyed at any sit down dinner.”

Next, Lightning’s Electrostatic Ale will give you a nice shock with any dessert. The hints of spice go with a pumpkin pie, for example, while the “light, playful, champagne-like bubbles” will make you forgot about that bottle of Brut in the fridge.

For Friday’s lunch o’ leftovers, give your tired taste buds a jump-start with Lightning’s Fair Weather Pale Ale and turkey tacos. If you’re a bit hungover, go heavy on the avocado, but don’t forget the cilantro and salsa on a big whole wheat tortilla.

Lightning’s motto: “Our methods are scientific, but our goals are artistic.” They’ve definitely got the art of brewing the unique and the unusual down to a science.
