West Coaster has obtained the pairing menu Ballast Point / MIHO Gastrotruck collaboration this Thursday. MIHO will be bringing their nomadic farm to face fare to Home Brew Mart from 5-7. The menu has been carefully planned and paired with oversight from Colby Chandler. See you there!
12/07/10 Here’s the updated text, direct from Colby himself:
Barmy Ale braised pork loin BBQ sandwich to pair with our Barmy Ale and a Black Marlin Porter based yogurt made by our next door neighbor Fiji Yogurt! Details below!
It was one of our favorite events during the 2010 San Diego Beer Week so we are bringing it back. It will be an informal food and beer pairing, at our original Ballast Point location. We have invited back Juan Miron and Kevin Ho and there MIHO Gastrotruck to pull up in front of the Home Brew Mart/Ballast Point Linda Vista. Miho will be serving their normal menu as well as a Barmy Ale braised pork loin BBQ sandwich to pair with our Barmy Ale. Barmy Ale is a Strong Golden Apricot Honey Ale weighing in at 10.5% ABV. We have also made some recommendations for beer pairing’s with MIHO’s fresh weekly menu. We have also teamed up again with our next door neighbor, Kyle Miholich, the owner of Fiji Yogurt. He will be making a Black Marlin Porter based yogurt. We will have a Chipotle version of Black Marlin as well as the regular version. Expect the Black Marlin Porter Yogurt to taste like malted milk balls, especially with chocolate sprinkles added on top.
BUTTERNUT SQUASH SALAD
paired with Ballast Point’s Calico Amber Ale (roasted local butternut squash, local apple, local arugula & radicchio, manchego, spiced walnuts).
GRASS FED BURGER
paired with Ballast Point’s Abandon Ship Smoked Lager (grass fed Tallgrass beef, Petaluma white cheddar, crispy shallots, garlic dijon aioli, local butter leaf, local brioche bun).
with a soup du jour, paired with Big Eye IPA
STUFFED PORK LOIN SANDWICH
paired with Reef Rye Brown Ale (all natural Duroc pork loin stuffed w/ bacon, local wild mushrooms, local braised greens, walnuts, dried cranberries, mustard orange aioli, smoked gouda, local rosemary focaccia).
BELGIAN STYLE FRIES
paired with Sculpin IPA (hand cut Kennebec potatoes, handmade Baharat ketchup).
You will be able to purchase food/desert from MIHO or Fiji separately and then get a taster to pair with it at our Taster Bar, inside the Home Brew Mart. A long shared table will be set up in the Ballast Point Brewery for you to sit down and enjoy your pairings and possibly a good conversation. Picnic table style seating, no reservations needed. Food, Yogurt and Beer will be purchased separately by the customer.
MIHO Gastrotruck uses fresh, local, and thoughtfully-sourced ingredients to create hand-crafted street food that is affordable, convenient, and delicious. We truly care about this kind of food, and we hope to share that love with our community.
Fiji Yogurt Shop has been a neighbor of Home Brew Mart / Ballast Point for almost three years now. In that time we have collaborated occasionally to make a pretty spectacular Beer Yogurt. Fiji’s quality yogurt and self serve format helps mirror what we at Home Brew Mart have been doing since 1992. The Linda Vista location was their first of four stores in San Diego.
Cost: Food will vary in price. Beers will be a dollar. Barmy Ale will be available for Growler purchase! Chipotle Porter will be tasters only! We will have 15 beers on tap and available for tasting.
