Border X Brewing opening in L.A.

Barrio Logan-based interest’s Bell location debuting this weekend

Last May, Barrio Logan-based Border X Brewing launched a WeFunder campaign to crowdsource funds to open a satellite tasting room in Bell, California. That effort resulted in $187,564 from 296 investors, enough for owner David Favela and company to move forward with their Los Angeles County satellite, which is set to debut at noon on Saturday, March 2.

Located at 4400 Gage Street, the 7,000-square-foot venue features high ceilings and an open floor plan with numerous seating options, most notably communal tables given artistic flourish care of black-and-white designs pulling in similarly monochromatic photography hanging on the walls.

The project had originally been projected for completion in mid-September of last year. In moving into the L.A. market, Favela says he hopes to reach Hispanic customers at Mexican supermarkets, restaurants, and bars. That culturally driven goal has been at the foundation of the business since it opened in 2014.

Border X celebrated its four-year anniversary last weekend, making this the second high-profile soiree for the company in as many weeks. The Bell grand opening festivities will begin at noon with a ribbon-cutting by City officials followed by an Aztec-style “blessing” ceremony and a 7 p.m. performance by musical guests, B-Side Players. Arts and crafts vendors, DJs, and a lowrider car show will also be part of this eclectic event.
