Beer Briefs: Burning Beard | Fall | KO Underground

On-site eats in the east, a South Park tasting room and downtown surrender

June 12, 2019 By Brandon Hernández

Good beer, a friendly staff and a stocked jukebox give people plenty of reasons to patronize Burning Beard Brewing, but the El Cajon cult favorite is adding an amenity. Ownership is working to install an in-house food component that will apply “The Beard’s” artisanal ethos to burgers and fries. Co-founder Jeff Wiederkehr says they will be grinding their own meat and using all quality, natural ingredients. He and his team hope to have the kitchen up and running in late 2019 or early 2020.

One of the busiest breweries in North Park is attempting to head down 30th Street to try their hand with the South Park crowd. Fall Brewing has applied for a license to convert a spot at 3010 Juniper Street into a satellite tasting room from which to sell more of their diverse lineup of ales and lagers.

Meanwhile, a mysterious Gaslamp Quarter brewpub project that caught the attention of passers-by and Google searches is surrendering its license. KO Underground Brewery, a would-be dance club and brewery championed by an entrepreneur with a penchant for mixed martial arts, has been scrapped. Instead, the venue it was to be housed in at 1320 Fifth Avenue has been revamped and now goes by the moniker KO Underground Lounge.
