Hard kombucha company hires Saint Archer talent

North Park-based JuneShine brings on Greg Peters to head brewing

August 15, 2018 By Brandon Hernández

Just eight weeks into its existence, local manufacturer of alcoholic kombucha, JuneShine, has brought on an experienced, blue-chip fermentationist to serve as its chief brewing officer. That individual is Greg Peters, the former director of brewing for Miramar-based Saint Archer Brewing, he will oversee all brewing operations at the company’s headquarters in the largest of the three leased brewery spaces at North Park’s Craft by Brewery Igniter campus.

While at Saint Archer, Peters was best known for his work developing the company’s Tusk & Grain line of barrel-aged and experimental beers. He joined that interest in 2014. The following year, the company was purchased by Big Beer entity, MillerCoors. Peters was an outspoken advocate for the “craft as f***” nature of his work and his belief Saint Archer should still be considered part of the San Diego craft-brewing fold despite the opinions of the San Diego Brewers Guild and a significant percentage of local brewery employees and beer enthusiasts. Prior to moving to Saint Archer, Peters honed his barrel-aging expertise as a member of the brewing team at The Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, after working for Maui Brewing and Pizza Port.

In addition to his technical skills, Peters was particularly attractive to JuneShine’s ownership because of his shared ideologies and recreational pursuits. Peters is a musician and part of the popular band Dead Feather Moon. He is also an avid outdoorsman and environmentalist. Being active, artful and concerned about the planet are all tenets of the young, but fast-growing company, which already plans on expanding production and distribution in the coming months. JuneShine is currently distributed to more than 60 on- and off-site accounts throughout San Diego County.
